Вопрос не ко мне…

А я только о том, что могло бы большее количество авторов из Минска попытаться принять участие, тем самым создавая и большее основание для продолжения разговора. Другое дело, что такие вещи готовить нужно заранее и основательно, имея цель и и мотивацию.

I have only one camera and one lens, the same which I used when I was studying: a Hasselblad with a 50mm lens. I am not so interested in the technique as I am interested in the mood or emotion of the foto. I photograph people I know or encounter. On location, at home or other places. Sometimes I have an idea of what I want to do or a prop I want to use, but usually I let the shoot develop on its own. I use a tripod and light meter and sometimes it can take two hours to shoot 12 fotos. This allows time for me to spend with my model and for a certain atmosphere to be created and a relationship between...

…I feel that many fotos are self-portraits somehow.

Within his Indochina project, Roman Rahmacher compiled a selection of classic and stylized portrait photography from studios in Cambodia which for the first time are presented to a larger public on the occasion of the Triennial of Photography 2008 in cooperation with KunstLeben, the project area of kulturreich.

This compiled series of artificially seeming portraits from studios in Phnom Penh gives informative insights into the process of the Cambodian identity formation after the cessation of the dictatorship and the efforts of a country to find a new cultural concept. The photographs document the transitional phase of an esthetic placing between tradition and modernity, which are representative for the current economic and cultural breakup in South East Asia.

…Aside from classical subjects, one is dominating – Gerti, his wife who he met in 1952 and married two years later. She is not only his wife and mother of their two sons, but she is also his model and muse. Together with her, he can try out and realize different ideas and fantasies and can develop technical finesses. In more than 4 decades of their living together, they developed an intimacy and symbiosis which could never be possible between professional photographers and models.
Many photos are deliberately staged, often characterized by the taste, fashion, and style of the time. Much more is created spontaneously, at home or during trips and journeys. The fun and easy-going pleasure of the making, the intimacy and natural freshness: holidays in the mountains, the young bride shy but proud, hidden behind a big leaf during the first nudes, flirty pictures with nightdress in the wedding night, fashion show at home with self made elegant clothes and saucy lingerie, at the race ground with the new hat, the fashionable young mother with buggy, Gerti in Paris and London, at the sea and on the alp. There is always a touch of erotism, at the hotel room and appartment, collecting mushrooms in the woods or having a picnic at a lake.

Валерий Дмитриевич, да хорошо бы, а как вы себе это представляете?

Володя, возможно и по вашей наводке (см. выше), отправлял материал с готовой выставкой, в которой было представлено 11 авторов. Кураторы сделали свою выборку сами. Наши московские друзья, вообще, по другим каналам попали. Так что за всех один только бог думает. Опять же об отсутствии представительских материалов речь может идти, а те что есть, показываем, по возможности, вы же видели.

Понятно. В смысле, хорошо.

А что вообще делать — абсолютно непонятно, поскольку развитие любого из направлений на хорошем уровне требует каких-то безумных совершенно сил и вложений. И не по местным меркам. Даже то, что краем глаза удалось в Вильнюсе увидеть, не оставляет сомнений в том, что это индустрия, в которую вложены огромные силы и энергия давно специализирующихся на фотографии людей, и началось это не вчера и не позавчера. И не в одном каком-то лидере истина, вот что важно понимать.

В значительной степени поэтому там и государственные отчисления имеются, галереи, книги, другой разговор со спонсорами — не упало само с неба…

Уже в этом сравнении ситуация у нас практически безвыходная.

Т.е. персональный расчет и вложения (или персональный надрыв), возможные групповые технологии могут ее скрасить приватно, но временное и имущественное расстояние уже не преодолеть.

Еще и в силу отсутствия общей идеи, обусловленное нашей природной и общей экономической и культурной ситуацией — даже маленькое начинание требует предельной концентрации усилий, а местная ментальность в ее новых формах — абсолютная помеха любым стратегиям…

Есть некоторая надежда на школы, конечно, но тут же еще и определенные установки важны, самого обучения и естественного энергичного состояния действия и желания перемен не вполне достаточно…

He was arrested in Cuba following the publication of Les Cubains, a work produced with the collaboration of Cuban dissident writer Zoé Valdéz. …China, however, seems to offer a more hospitable environment with many willing subjects. Van der Hilst first arrived in Shanghai in the early 90s on assignment to capture the city sans skyscrapers.

…These images were first exhibited in Paris, using photocopies to create a tiled effect. "I wanted to do a throwaway exhibition," says Van der Hilst. "Were you to mount these photocopies on a wall, the images would soon fade. My intention was to protest the phenomenon of collecting photos."

Though a large body of Van der Hilst's subsequent work used Cibachrome paper, his upcoming exhibition at m97 gallery will be printed on digital photography paper. "I said to hell with Cibachrome," he exclaims. "The reds are too red, the greens are too green and the whites are too white. Cibachrome isn't really paper, it's plastic, so you can't even tear it up."

The Epson quality digital paper, he adds, has a kind of noblesse. Much like the work of the Flemish masters.

For a long time, it was believed that the photography capital of Ukraine was, is, and will be Kharkiv. That’s how it was during Soviet times. A unique photography environment had formed. There was an enormous concentration of original and talented photographers who created a unique school of photo art. The greats like Borys Mikhailov and Serhiy Bratkov. Nevertheless, during perestroika and later years, another center of photography appeared — Kyiv.

The first Ukrpressphoto national competition was taking place in Kyiv, offering large cash prizes. Documentary photographers from other cities, including Kharkiv, started moving to the capital. As a result, a very strong group of documentary photographers, who worked exclusively for the press, formed in the city.

A new century arrived. The photographic life of the city was revived by the youth. Photo galleries specializing in photo projects appeared. Other galleries began paying more attention to photography. Pavlo Gudimov’s Ya Gallery art center designed a program to support Ukrainian photography and made this a separate line of the center’s activities…

…Oleksandr Liapin makes documentary photography but in a unique manner. It was born during photographers’ experiments with his film camera and digital lens. So now it’s frightening to look into the holes that Oleksandr Liapin made with this newborn camera. One doesn’t feel comfortable spying on Kyiv. It’s somewhat different in those openings. Lifeless…

A hole is a lair. You need to go down it slowly and carefully, because this is Munch’s stolen “Scream.” It’s the crushed screams in the charred space of Kyiv. It’s the groaning or the whine of the burnt plush teddy bear on the bank of the Dnipro against the background of the Lavra. Why did the nice, plush teddy bear die? Why is Kyiv dying in a hole? What’s the reality?

The sole aches. Such pain makes is possible to feel, to see, to love, and to understand. Liapin makes it possible to spy on death, decay, the disappearance into darkness of Kyiv. Strange, but the holes are merely black-and-white documentary photography — there is nothing made up in it.

Александр Чекменев в столичной «Я галерее» представил свою фотовыставку и фотоальбом

«…Павел ГУДИМОВ, руководитель проекта «Гудимов арт-проект»:

— Как-то Александр Ляпин и Александр Радчуков пришли ко мне в гости и познакомили меня с Чекменевым и с его работами. И я сразу же сказал, что хочу это выставить. Мы сделали первую фотовыставку, которая называлась «Черно-белая фотография». Это было в прошлом году, а уже сегодня мы выпустили фотоальбом с одноименным названием.

«Фотография без дублей: люди улицы уличного фотографа» — это своеобразный психологический эксперимент. Бомжи просто притягивают к себе. Он показал на самом деле людей с улиц. Нельзя говорить, что эти люди плохие или добрые, над ними нельзя смеяться. У них у каждого свое мировоззрение. Если присмотреться, то мы увидим, что это люди ничем не отличаются от нас.

Александр ЛЯПИН, фотограф:

— Где-то лет десять назад в Укринформе мы делали фотоконкурс «Укрпрессфото», и в номинации «Молодой автор» победил Чекменев. Тогда он прислал те фотографии, которые мы сейчас видим. Я просто тронут. Чекменев выбирает ту сферу жизни, куда все боятся заглядывать. Для кого-то это невесело, но мне лично очень нравится. Эти люди интересны. Чекменев умеет подать подобный сюжет: люди у него — как в театре, он делает из них актеров, полноценных личностей».

(Вчера Р. рассказывал о некоторых интересных деталях поездки на «Янтарный Бриз», куда его подвозил министр сельского хозяйства (Латвии или Эстонии… не вспомню). Пять лет интенсивных занятий фотографией молодого и симпатичного министра пока не привели к результатам типа киевского «Равновесия», да и пиетета у коллег к фотографии такого нет, но сам факт любопытен).

Киев, 14 июля. Выставка Александра Чекменева в галерее "ЯГАЛЕРЕЯ"

«К выставке фотографий Александра Чекменёва, человека из Луганска

Александр Чекменёв – человек из Луганска. Самого красивого города на свете. Самого интересного города на свете. Самого необычного города на земле. Населенного самыми яркими личностями. Этот вывод я сделал лет пятнадцать назад, когда впервые увидел фотографии Чекменёва. Он возвысил до небес дно бытия. Он открыл миру спившихся луганских мыслителей, показал фактуру самого дна жизни, безнадегу превратил в иронию, ужас в юмор. Доказал, что жизнь везде прекрасна.
Его фотографии, это истории, судьбы, путешествия. Снимки так вклеиваются в память, что ненароком думаешь, а не колдун ли Чекменёв? Я помню все до единой его фотографии, все серии, которые видел. Каждого душевнобольного, прижимающего к своей груди белые лилии. Дивные образы, над смыслом которых, боже мой, думаю каждый день. И боюсь сойти с ума, и хочу, чтобы Чекменёв меня сфотографировал в провинциальной психушке с белым цветком. И я пойму, почему у людей такие просветленные глаза.
Я помню донбасских шахтеров в копанках. Черных с белыми глазами и сверкающими зубами. Горняцкую свадьбу почти в шахте. Белое платье невесты, а рядом фуфайки и угольная пыль в коже. Угольные горы и терриконы за спиной. Я помню последних выживших ветеранов войны. Их сдувает ветер и смывает дождь. Они исчезают. Чекменёв еле успевает снять героев. Он единственный, кто ими еще интересуется. Я помню блошиный рынок. Кругом блохи – товары, люди- торговцы, рельсы трамвая.
Я помню село в далеком лесу и семьи по пятнадцать детей, и клюкву, которую они собирают в туманах… Я помню лица как сухари, с кожей, отражающей лунные пейзажи, водянистые глаза, как старые лужи, заиленные и подсохшие. Беззубые рты в улыбке, обрамленной оврагами и трещинами лет, страстей, пороков. Обнаженные тела, открывшиеся только для него.
Чекменёв бродяга- сновыга. Подсмотрщик за жизнью. Любитель нырнуть поглубже и подольше задержать дыхание и пошире открыть глаза. Он там, где другие фотографы не ходят. Он там один. Его ни с кем не перепутаешь.
Я приду к нему на выставку в арт центр «Я Галерея» и буду вновь проваливаться в бездонные чернобелые квадраты, прямоугольники запечатленных Чекменёвым миров, параллельных, низких, высоких, иных. И буду из них слышать Чекменёвский голос: «Саня, Саня…».

In May, 1997 Sotheby's London auctioned off a stunning private collection of modern photography under the name "Helene Anderson Collection". The world’s best funded private collectors and most prestigious museums competed for the masterpieces offered and paid 100,000 Euro or more for a single photo. Today, more than ten years later, these buyers still do not know whether they are legal owners of their acquisitions or whether they will have to return the precious photos at some point…

Bettina Rheims — Just like a Woman

Stretched out on colored sheets, the women for this new series remind us of the Chambre Close models who posed against very different backgrounds of colorfully-painted paper; in the same manner, here, each sheet corresponds to one woman. Photographing her models from above for the first time, and in doing so, placing them closer to her, in a relationship of proximity and intimacy during the session, Bettina Rheims seems to capture these women upon awakening in the morning or in an in-between moment, one of “beautiful agony,” between ecstasy and suffering… Only the look in their eyes has the capacity to help us understand their innermost feelings in this ephemeral moment. These women pose nude or in lingerie, their cheeks are red from the suffering that dwells within them and their ruddy skin bears clear impressions, including those of their undergarments…

…As the exposition shows (Bettina Rheims – Can You Find Happiness, currently at the C/O Berlin), portraits of women are the heart of the artist’s work. This new series fits in very logically, with its fresh look at what a woman is in our contemporary society. Just Like a Woman is a snapshot of those secret moments of complete ecstasy that today’s woman can freely experience. After the success of her grand European museum retrospective, from Helsinki in February 2004 to Lyon in July-August 2006, this new, colorful series shows us, once more, the quality of Bettina Rheims’ portraits and their ability to reveal the deepest human feelings through an eye that is always supremely sensitive.
